Hi everyone. It’s Lana Dingwall with Arrow Always Moving Forward, the coaching and consulting company. Keeping up with this month’s theme, which is managing yourself, I thought today’s topic, as always, was really important. The topic today is the only quote you need to use to be successful.
Before I get to the actual quote, I want to tell you guys a little bit about why I think this is important. One of the reasons it’s important is, as being a female entrepreneur, just being a new entrepreneur in general, we tend to spend a lot of time and money gathering resources, listening to podcasts, reading articles, going into courses, going to conferences, paying to go to networking events. We spend a lot of time and money trying to gather information so that we can become a better entrepreneur, which is absolutely awesome and so important.
But the reason why the only quote you need to use to be successful is so important, and I really want you guys to note that I’m using the word “the only quote you need to ‘use’ to be successful,” not “the only quote you need to ‘know’ to be successful.” That’s really, really important, because the idea is there’s so much information and knowledge out there, but a lot of the times we do absolutely nothing with it. The only quote you need to use to be successful in your business is, I posted it yesterday on my Facebook, it’s Marie Forleo, who if you don’t know who she is, check her out, because she is such an intelligent woman. But her quote is that “Insight without action is worthless.” In all honesty, I don’t think that there could be a truer quote out there, so much so that I’ve actually decided it’s not just a quote to me. I actually use it as a philosophy in terms of how I run my business.
I’m going to give you guys a really quick analogy. It’s not enough just to know that you need to look both ways when you go to cross the street. Just knowing that isn’t actually going to help you when crossing the street. You actually have to look both ways, because if you know you should look both ways and you don’t, you might get hit by a car. That is a great example of how insight without action is worthless. You need to look both ways, and you actually have to look both ways when you cross the street to avoid getting hit by a car and cross safely. It’s the same for anything else that you learn.
What I’m going to share with you guys today is my three tips in how I’ve actually taken her quote, Marie Forleo’s quote, and have actually been able to use it my business every single day to help me become more successful.
The first thing is to recognize that most things that scare you are the very things you need to do to propel your business forward. How that relates back to the quote is that sometimes we have these big aha moments where we’re like, “That is exactly what I need to do to move my business forward, or that’s the missing piece.” The reason we weren’t doing it before, and the reason we’re not doing it now is probably because it’s a little bit scary. It’s probably asking you or telling you you need to push your comfort zone a little bit to be able to be more successful or to get to the next step.
The biggest thing you have to recognize is you need to learn to feel the fear and do it anyway. It’s for sure easier said than done, but the more times you do it, the easier it’s going to be, and the more you’re actually going to be able to take all these great insights that you learn and actually apply it to your business so that your business can become what you want it to become.
The second is, there’s a lot of noise out there. There’s a lot of people, people like me even, coaches who are telling you what will work, what won’t work. There’s a lot of books, podcasts, again, so much stuff. You have to learn to be able to assess what’s going to work for you. The only way that you’re ever going to find clarity in recognizing what things are going to work for your business is to actually do them. You find clarity by taking action, not by thinking about it.
After you’ve assessed the situation and you figure out what’s going to work for your business, actually schedule in a time to do it. I don’t know how many times I’ve been at a conference, or I’ve read a book, or been on a webinar, and someone said something, and a light bulb went off in my head. I was like, “I need to do that,” and then I don’t do it. Why? Because I don’t actually schedule time into my calendar to do it, and then I totally forget it. I go from having this epiphany moment to just totally forgetting about it. Why? Because I just didn’t schedule a time. The second way to make sure that you actually turn insight into action is to schedule a time to do it, and then do it.
The third thing is you really need to recognize is that if you don’t take your new insight and actually apply it, you’re just wasting your time and money. You’re not just wasting time and money that you’ve already spent on these courses and resources. You’re actually losing out on the potential to make more money, because you’re not doing the thing that’s going to make your business more successful, or to move your business forward, or to get you out there in front of more people. It’s not only losing you money in terms of money spent, it’s also preventing you from making profits in the future.
To summarize, my three ways that I take my insight and apply it to action is to, one, recognize that most things that are going to scare me are the very things I need to do. It’s the same for you, so feel the fear and do it anyway.
Two, there’s a lot of noise out there. Learn to assess, and after you’ve assessed what’s going to work for you, schedule it in your calendar. Don’t put it on your to-do list. Schedule it in your calendar.
The third is you really have to recognize that if you don’t take this new found insight, even today’s insight, or any insight you learn, if you don’t actually apply it, that’s wasted time, most likely wasted money, and it’s also you’re losing out on future profits that you could be gaining by actually utilizing this new knowledge and applying it to your business.
My action item for you guys this week is, again keeping in mind insight without action is worthless, what has been something that you’ve learned recently, something that you know you should be doing that will take your business to the next level, and you’re not doing it? I want you to schedule it in, make time to do it. If it scares you, that’s a sign that you should do it anyway. Schedule it in, and do it.
Remember, insight without action is worthless, and don’t do that. Waste of time, waste of money, and you guys have great gifts. You have great things to offer the world, whether it be products or services. If you’re not putting yourself out there and pushing your business and growing it, people like me aren’t going to get to use them. And that would be a shame.
Again, like always, if you’ve like this, please like, share, comment below. I’d love to hear potentially what’s some insight that you’re going to put into action soon. If you have any questions, you can always shoot me a message. But I hope you guys have a wonderful week, and I will see you next time.
